Fictio (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is a short story publishing platform available at fictio.blog. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use Fictio, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data. By using Fictio, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

When you sign in with Google, we receive the following from Google OAuth:

  • Your display name
  • Your email address
  • Your Google profile picture

As you use the platform, we also collect activity data tied to your account:

  • Stories you read, like, or add to your wishlist
  • Comments you post
  • Reading progress and bookmarks

We do not collect payment information. Fictio is a free platform.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Authenticate you and maintain your session
  • Personalize your reading experience — recommendations, reading history, and saved preferences
  • Enable author features, such as publishing and managing stories
  • Send optional platform notifications (likes, comments, etc.)
  • Improve and monitor platform performance

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to third parties.

3. Third-Party Services

Fictio relies on the following third-party services to operate:

  • Google OAuth — used solely for authentication. Your use of Google sign-in is also subject to Google's Privacy Policy
  • Vercel — hosts the platform and powers Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights. Analytics data is anonymized and used only to understand overall platform performance.
  • Neon — provides our PostgreSQL database infrastructure. Your account and activity data is stored securely on Neon's servers.
  • Vercel Blob — stores story thumbnail images and profile pictures.

4. Cookies & Storage

Fictio uses a session cookie to keep you signed in after authenticating with Google. This cookie is strictly necessary for the platform to function and is not used for advertising. We also use browser localStorage

to persist UI preferences such as your chosen theme. No advertising cookies or cross-site tracking cookies are set.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data and activity for as long as your account remains active. If you delete your account, your personal information and associated content are removed from our systems. You may request deletion at any time by contacting us at the address below.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information associated with your account
  • Request deletion of your account and personal data

7. Children's Privacy

Fictio is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
